More snow means more spring flooding and citizens are encouraged to prepare now.
“Just like home insurance, protecting your home from flooding is a homeowner and business owner’s responsibility,” shares Uintah County Emergency Manager Heidi Lundberg. “Get prepared now while there’s still time and before it’s an emergency.” Sandbags can be purchased at most hardware and agriculture stores in the area and free sand is available near the Western Park ice rink south of the food pantry for everyone to come fill their sandbags. Bring your own sandbags and shovels. Some further tips include: adding flood insurance to your home coverage; clearing snow away from your home foundation, window wells, and any drainage areas so that water can flow in the right areas (even do this if you don’t have a basement); and finally, check on your neighbors before, during, and after a disaster.
