After several months of restoration work, the “Moqui” statue is in place at its new home on Highway 40 at the Ute Crossing Intersection in Fort Duchesne. Built out of cement in 1976, Moqui sat on Roosevelt’s Main Street for years, easily recognizable with his headdress, red wrap, and peace pipe. Ute Tribal Enterprises bought the large statue and announced the restoration project last summer. “We feel that this statue will provide a focal point that will attract visitors, customers, and promote tourism at our tribally-owned businesses on Highway 40,” shares Ute Tribal Enterprises CEO Valentina Sireech. “We are glad to have a long-time figure of the Uintah Basin placed in Fort Duchesne where locals and visitors can continue to visit through the years.” The restoration effort was assisted by donations from Crescent Point Energy and RVC Construction as well as others who assisted with the rehabilitation. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will be held December 7th at 11am to welcome Moqui and recognize those involved in the restoration project
