A Uintah Basin icon and historical figure is making a permanent move after recently being purchased. The Moqui Indian with his headdress, red wrap, and peace pipe has sat on Roosevelt’s Main Street for years. Ute Tribal Enterprises bought the large statue and will be moving it to its new home at the Ute Crossing Intersection in Fort Duchesne. The Moqui Indian, also known as the Big Indian, has sat in front of a building locally known as the Moqui Indian Trading Post. Ute Tribal Enterprises has announced that they are in the process of revamping and refurbishing the iconic statue that was build out of cement in 1976.
