While it was initially forecast that Moon Lake Campground would reopen to the public early this week, crews are needing more time and that date has been pushed back. “Crews have been working diligently to prepare the campground for use, including completion of a new slurry seal. The revised date will allow the seal to cure and reinstallation of parking barriers,” shares the Ashley National Forest announcement. “Once the campground reopens, some amenities may not yet be available, including water. A new water system is required, and replacement of the system is still in process. Pit toilets and portable restrooms will be provided.” The work being done is to repair damage caused by debris flows and flooding that occurred in 2023 and aims to address future debris flows. The closure is on the Moon Lake Campground while the Moon Lake Group Campground remains open. The revised opening date is June 28th. For more information, call 435-738-2482.
