Moon Family Working Hard On This Year’s Epic Gingerbread Display

The talented Moon family of Jensen are at it again preparing an epic gingerbread display for the public to enjoy this holiday season. Each year, Roosevelt Library Director Stephen Moon and his family choose a book or literary theme to create an all gingerbread display destined for the Roosevelt Branch Library during the Christmas season. The tradition of making gingerbread houses began when Stephen was just a kid. His mother, Ann Moon, taught him the art of making gingerbread and all the candy details as decoration. Over the years, the displays became more and more elaborate and once Stephen’s wife Sabrina came on the scene the three of them worked as a team to out-do themselves each year. In 2013, the Moon family added a new team member with Stephen and Sabrina’s son Matthew, who joined the tradition his first year by eating the baby Jesus right out of the manger! Matthew is now an equal team member and takes his role in the annual tradition seriously. The literary theme this year is ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. This has been 19 years of Stephen displaying a gingerbread creation at the library, 18 years with Sabrina’s help, and 14 years of the large elaborate displays. The display will be set up December 2nd and available to view throughout the month of December in the Roosevelt Branch Library
