What is a cardboard boat regatta? Well if you had attended the Moffat County Hot Air Balloon Festival over the weekend you could have experienced it first hand. This year marked the fourth running of the regatta which welcomes teams to race across the pond at Loudy-Simpson Park in crafts they have made of cardboard and other approved materials. The Craig Daily Press shared the rundown and images of the nine teams in their unique creations. The designs included a dill pickle, an RV, a Pirates of the Caribbean ghost ship, a U.S. Navy ship and a pretty sleek 1958 Corvette to name a few. The ships were assembled on the shore of the pond and then raced for cash prizes which were awarded for the fastest time and the most creative watercraft. The fastest team was the dill pickle vessel created by air balloon pilot Don Dougherty and piloted by his wife Jen and friend Pam. Based on the fun had by everyone present, this is definitely a tradition that will stick around.
