Watching a classmate carried away in a body bag leaves a serious impact. Thankfully, in this case, the experience was part of a MOCK car wreck aimed at showing Rangely Jr. and Sr. High School students that Seatbelts Save Lives! Student council members worked with the Colorado State Patrol, Rangely Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance, and Hospital to set up the realistic car wreck and scenario to act out the wreck’s aftermath in the front parking lot of the high school. The Rangely District Hospital shared on Facebook the details of the impactful demonstration. “Students gathered in the parking lot while Jasper Whiston of the Fire department narrated the incident that included one student being found ejected from the vehicle because he was not wearing a seatbelt. Although 3 other students had injuries, they all survived the incident because they were wearing their seatbelts. The school got to watch while the occupants were extricated from the vehicle and taken to the ambulance and the one ejected was placed in a body bag.” What better way to drive the message home than by showing rather than telling about the consequences of choosing to wear a seatbelt or not.
