Mirror Lake Highway has been reopened though is still affected by the Mirror Lake Complex Fire. The Mirror Lake Complex Fire, burning towards the High Uintas, is actually two fires: the Murdock Fire and the Slate Fire. Combined, it is reported at 5,592 acres and is 11 percent contained. Growth has mostly come from the Murdock Fire as it continues to consume standing dead and downed lodgepole pines killed by beetles. Uintah Basin residents will likely continue to see the smoke from the Murdock Fire as the dead trees are expected to produce smoke until it snows. A transfer to local command is planned ahead of the significant rain event expected this week. The rain is expected to keep the fires from moving. It’s reported the fire was started by lightning on August 23rd and that no structures are threatened.
