The first of three meetings got underway on Tuesday in Lapoint to gather public input on the Uintah County Trails Master Plan. “People know their neighborhoods better than we do,” shares trails committee member and TriCounty Health Director Jordan Mathis. “We want their input on how it can be improved to get around their neighborhood whether with trails, sidewalks, or bike lanes. We want people’s input.” In February, funding was secured for planning trails and alternative transportation infrastructure in Uintah County. The Uintah Transportation Special Service District applied for the funds through the Utah Department of Transportation Small Urban and Non-Urban Transportation Alternatives Program and was awarded a $350,000 dollar grant. Approximately $100,000 dollars will be used on development of a small urban plan encompassing Naples City and Vernal City, and the remaining $250,000 dollars will be used on trail development though the rest of Uintah County. The next public input meeting is being held tonight, May 17th, at the Ballard Town Hall. The final meeting will be tomorrow night at the USU-Vernal Campus on May 18th.
