Meet The Candidate: JR Bird For Utah’s 3rd Congressional District

Utah’s 3rd Congressional District GOP candidate J.R. Bird is a Uintah Basin native that will be on the June 25th primary ballot for the seat now occupied by John Curtis. As one of 10 candidates running for this office, Bird finished 3rd at the Republican Convention behind Utah Senator Mike Kennedy and Utah Young Republicans chairman Zac Wilson, who as a convention only candidate was eliminated from the race. Bird is qualified for the primary ballot after gathering 7000 signatures. It’s been over 100 years since there has been a Congressional representative from the Uintah Basin. Bird explains why a representative from the Uintah Basin is important during an interview with Evans Family Media on Newstalk 104.5FM and AM920. He explains this is needed not only for the Uintah Basin but for the whole eastern side of Utah. “Look at the diversity of issues we face that other parts of Utah don’t have to deal with,” shares Bird. “Look at public lands issues that we have here that really affect water, that affect energy production, and that affect a lot of aspects of our life that are controlled on a federal level. To not have that representation puts us at a real disadvantage in our District so to have someone that understands those issues,…that we live with on a daily basis, is something that we definitely need on a federal level,” says Bird, “and those are federal issues.” Listen to the entire interview on www.BasinNow.com by clicking on ‘Meet the Candidates’ under the ‘Community’ tab.
