JR Bird, GOP candidate for Utah’s 3rd Congressional District, is a Uintah Basin native and the current Mayor of Roosevelt. Bird was in the middle of the pack out of Convention but has been moving up the polls and steadily gaining momentum in the race. If he secures the seat, it will be the first time in a hundred years to have a Uintah Basin resident representing our Congressional District. Bird recently participated in an interview with Evans Family Media, sharing what he has to offer the largest geographic district in the state. The reason Bird feels there needs to be a representative for District 3 from rural Utah, and from the Uintah Basin in particular, is that the things that affect our district are decided on a federal level, such as public lands issues. Bird emphasized that we need boots on the ground to fight the threat of the BLM ruling to categorize Conservation as a land use. He said not only will that be devastating for our economy but not touching the land will be worse for the land itself. Noone knows the land better than those that live on and use the land, said Bird. Grazing, for example, is not a negative but a positive for the land when managed properly. Bird also discussed at length what he describes as the weaponization of the judicial branch, using Trump as an example. Other topics in the interview include the lack of federal transparency and accountability, the border crisis, and the need to get back the rule of law and protect our freedoms.
