A man who used bear spray to try and draw a woman out of her camper in Uintah County was arrested last week. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, officers responded to a 9-1-1 call on October 8th at around 10:30pm of a woman stating that she had a protective order against the man who was trying to enter her camp trailer and refused to leave. When officers arrived she explained that Denny Jay Hatch had threatened to kill her and burn down the camp trailer which she was inside of. Hatch also used a can of bear spray and sprayed it into the camper through a side window in an attempt to get her out of the camper. Hatch had run when she called 9-1-1 and officers were unable to locate him in the dark. Officers confirmed that there was a protective order in place and that a dark colored liquid was dripping down the side of the camp trailer from the window that the woman said the bear spray had been sprayed through. Hatch’s property, including a backpack, skateboard, and cell phone were by the front door of the camper. The next day Hatch was located at the camp trailer and was placed under arrest. He refused to speak with the officers about the incidents. Hatch is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Aggravated Assault and Misdemeanor Threat of Violence and Violation of a Protective Order.
