A third man reported missing on the Western Colorado Slope in a matter of weeks was
found deceased on Friday, January 12th. Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office shares that
their Search and Rescue team and a dog from Search and Rescue Dogs of the United
States (SARDUS) descended in the area of mile marker 30 on Highway 13 on January
12th at approximately 10:07am to perform an intense grid search running the dog along
Highway 13. “Members of the Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue searched the grid
using probe poles and utilizing dogs along the Highway, due to the depth of the snow.
Henry Twitchell was found at approximately 10:45am across a sage-covered bluff at the
bottom of a deep ravine. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family at this time. The
investigation into the death of Henry David Twitchell remains on-going.” Henry
Twitchell had last been seen on January 4th. This was one of three extensive searches
underway on Colorado’s Western Slope. The search is still on for Moffat County’s
70-year-old Thomas Ray Velasquez who was last seen on December 18th and 75-year-old
John Miketin who was last seen leaving his home in Grand Junction on January 11th.
