The driver of a white Ford F-150 that crossed oncoming lanes of Highway 40 in Uintah County before hitting a building was arrested on Monday. The crash took place at approximately 150 East Main in Vernal and according to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, the driver was identified as 30-year-old Sebastian William Hoogveldt. A records check revealed that Sebastian had a suspended ignition interlock device Utah driver’s license but no interlock device was observed in the vehicle. When asked, Sebastian said he was traveling westbound and then hit something but was unsure of what he hit. Tire skid marks indicated that the vehicle had crossed two lanes of eastbound traffic before striking a flowerpot on the south side of the road and then striking the front of a hotel room. An inventory of the vehicle located a piece of tin foil with a Fentanyl pill and burnt residue. Sebastian Hoogveldt was transported to Uintah County Jail and booked on a Felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance as well as Operating a Vehicle Without an Interlock System and Failure to Operate Within a Single Lane, among other charges.
