A Uintah County man has been charged with Extortion as well as Unlawful Detention and Assault after an incident at his apartment in Vernal on February 21st. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, a 9-1-1 caller reported that they had received a text from a friend that they needed police immediately. When officers arrived at the address they could hear a female screaming in distress and the door was kicked in. 31-year-old Joshua Dakoda Quinn McCurry was placed in handcuffs and escorted from the residence. The victim told officers she came to check on McCurry because he had been drinking. McCurry became angry and began throwing things at her, threw her phone off the third story balcony, and would not allow her to leave. This went on for 2 hours. McCurry retrieved one of the phones and began going through the photographs and told the victim he was going to send sexually explicit content to her family if she broke up with him. The victim was able to get the phone and send a text asking someone for help before being body slammed onto the floor and prevented from leaving until the officers arrived. Joshua McCurry is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Extortion, Assault, Unlawful Detention, Damaging a Communication Device, Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct. He is being held without bail.
