A man was arrested early Wednesday morning after travelers saw a van had run off of SR-191 in Duchesne County down a steep embankment. Officers responded and made contact with the driver who stated he had fallen asleep and ran off the roadway. The driver was stumbling and could not keep his balance. Alcoholic beverages were found in the vehicle and broken alcoholic beverages were on the ground. Officers identified the driver as 53-year-old Carl Franklin Benson. Benson failed several field sobriety tests and the officer placed him under arrest for driving under the influence. A vehicle search revealed baggies of methamphetamine and marijuana in addition to the alcohol. Benson is charged with DUI and it was noted this was his 2nd offense in 10 years, as well as felony drug charges and no proof of insurance, no valid driver’s license, failure to register the vehicle, and failure to stay in
