Officials are urging locals to prepare now for the potential of spring flooding. According to Duchesne County Fire and Emergency Manager Mike Lefler, sudden warming or a rain-on-snow event could trigger floods in certain parts of the county. “If you are residing in an area where your property could be affected by high water levels, we encourage you to make plans and take action now to reduce the potential for damage or hazards that may arise from the anticipated spring run-off,” shares Lefler. “These preparations are especially important in the Dollar Ridge Fire burn scar area where there remains a strong possibility of fast runoff and heavy debris flowing down drainage courses.” Property owners should take proactive measures to protect and reduce the possibility of flood damage, explains Lefler. Stock up now on sandbags, creating dikes around structures, or clearing debris from nearby watercourses. Lefler also reminds all that if spring flooding does occur, county crews must focus first on protecting public infrastructure and broader community needs rather than the needs of individual property owners.
