A proposal before the Utah legislature to amend the Utah Constitution has the full support of the Utah House and is now before the Senate. HJR10 defines the position and term of county sheriff which is something that the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office considers of great importance. “This bill is a proposal to place the Office of Sheriff into the Utah Constitution and preserve it as an elected office,” shares the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office. “Sheriff is the only law enforcement office in the nation that is elected by the people.” HJR10 passed the House Committee last week and received the unanimous vote in the House on Wednesday. It now has 75 members of the House listed as co-sponsors and the prospect that it will be welcomed by the Senate is looking good.
