A Vernal business owner is hoping to warn the public of yet another scam that is targeting locals in his line of business. Ted Munford, owner of Techris Design, shares that they have had a lot of reports of people who have been targeted by phone scammers who claim to be with Apple. “One of the easiest ways to identify a scammer is that they call you about your computer problems rather than you calling them first,” explains Munford. “If your computer were ever truly causing the trouble they claim, you would probably either have law enforcement on your doorstep, or your ISP(Internet Service Provider) would simply disconnect your internet service until you got it resolved.” Munford also explains that scammers can be relentless and will try anything to convince you that you have a problem. “I would not put anything past them,” emphasizes Munford. “I have heard that they sometimes represent themselves as IRS and try to convince you that you are guilty of tax fraud.” Don’t fall for the scams and don’t give out your personal information.
