Our local special olympians had a fantastic day competing at the 2020 Special Olympics Snowshoe Invitational held January 29th at Soldier Hollow. “It was an amazing day,” shares Coach Brett Reynolds. “Each athlete competed in three races [and] all came home with awards. We had the oldest competitor and one of the youngest so our team covers a wide age range.” The local olympians got started in the snowshoe competitions two years ago when Brett and another local Special Olympics supporter Brian Gorum heard about the state competition and decided to become certified as coaches. They were able to convince their Mason Lodge to donate funds to purchase the snowshoes and they had the help of their fellow Masons in getting things put together. The help of local Special Olympic chairperson Frank Crowther was also key in getting things organized. This was the second year the group has competed and everyone had an awesome time, especially Coaches Reynolds and Gorum who say it is their favorite day of the year. Way to go to all the olympians on representing the Basin so well!
