The law enforcement community and beyond are mourning the passing of a well known officer in Duchesne County on January 28th. Roosevelt City Police Chief Mark Watkins shared the following statement about the loss on Tuesday: “The Roosevelt Police Department would like to send our deepest condolences to Corporal Cody Barton’s family. We are stunned by this sudden and unexpected loss. Corporal Barton started with Roosevelt City in May 2022 and quickly became a large part of this department. He had a huge personality that would take over a room. He was colorful and witty. We valued him in our department. We are saddened by the loss and will forever feel his void in our Law Enforcement family… Corporal Cody Barton will always be remembered and never forgotten. Your blue family will take the watch from here.” The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office also issued a statement of condolences in response to the news. Officer Barton started working at the Duchesne County Jail in 2010 and became a Patrol Deputy before moving to other agencies in 2012. The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office shared, “We are saddened by the loss of our brother in blue. Cody was truly a remarkable officer, co-worker, friend and brother. He will be sincerely missed by all.” Services will be held for Corporal Barton in Duchesne on Monday, February 5th. No details of Corporal Barton’s passing have been shared with the public.
