Work continues on Capitol Hill during Utah’s 2023 legislative session. Senator Ron Winterton shared an update on the bills he focused on during Week 4.
Winterton is the sponsor for SB33 ‘Disaster Amendments’ that provides emergency management funding for local agencies that need help but that don’t reach the extent of declaring an emergency. Senator Winterton is also sponsoring SB107 ‘Oil and Gas Severance Tax Amendments’ so that as the state receives severance tax on the production of oil and gas, the funds are protected and trusted to the Community Impact Board. Winterton is sponsoring SB169 ‘Enticement of a Minor Amendments’ that aims to tighten the law to prosecute those enticing minors over the internet. The code currently is not strong or enforceable so this bill aims to tighten it up.
Finally, Winterton touched on a bill being worked on that makes it illegal to collect data using an aerial drone. These bills are each still under consideration. Senator Winterton asks those that would like to get in touch with him to reach out to his intern Gracia Allen at grallen@le.utah.gov.
