Many breathed a sigh of relief at the announcement on Thursday that Bradley Moore, the man wanted for a shooting in Fort Duchesne, was found and in police custody. Perhaps no one was quite so relieved as the staff and students at Eagle View Elementary who had spent multiple school days at varying levels of lockdown during the massive manhunt. The incident happened on Sunday, May 6th, but concerns remained Monday morning about school safety because the shooter was still at large. The decision was ultimately made to keep school in session. “A threat analysis by Bureau of Indian Affairs police determined school could safely be held Monday,” shares Eagle View Principal Robert Stearmer. “It was great working with the BIA. They met Sunday afternoon on the school grounds, coordinating all aspects of this incident, including quickly developing incident objectives, operations, where resources would go and the responsibilities for all involved. Watching them, while they met here at school, really assured me that they had the safety of our students, the community, and Eagle View staff members in forefront of their planning.” As a show of their appreciation, Eagle View hosted a law enforcement officers luncheon last week that was followed by a school-wide assembly.
