New data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Utah climbing even higher in national job growth rankings. Utah now ranks Number 1 in both total job growth in the U.S. at 3.2 percent and Number 1 for private sector job growth at 3.5 percent. Unemployment is also low at 3.1 percent. “Utah continues to move in the right direction,” shares Governor Gary Herbert. “These rankings affirm that what we are doing in Utah is leading to positive outcomes. Our work, however, is far from through. I am committed to the Utah Business Promise, which will help ensure our qualified and skilled workforce continues to lead to opportunities for economic success individually and within our communities.” Last month’s unemployment numbers showed that Daggett County shifted from 3.8 to 3.5 percent unemployment. Duchesne County jumped down from 7 percent to 6.5 percent unemployment and Uintah County also saw a half a percent drop from 7.3 to 6.8 percent unemployment. Updated unemployment numbers from the Department of Workforce Services are expected this week.
