There are some things a person just doesn’t forget and a special demonstration to the 5th grade class of Lapoint Elementary may fit in that category. Principal Don Heath stood in as the volunteer for K-9 Riddick to demonstrate his apprehension skills. Heath bravely put on the bite sleeve so Riddick could show off one of the ways he helps protect the public.
The presentation was put on by Uintah County Sheriff’s Office deputies Amy Leishman and Matt Ouderkirk. Leishman is Riddick’s handler who serves as the school resource officer to Lapoint, Davis, Eagle View, and Maeser elementary schools. “It is very important for students and teachers to have a strong, trusting relationship with our school resource officers,” shared Principal Heath. “We are grateful for this partnership, which helps keep our school safe.”
