Keeping Pets Healthy in Winter Conditions

The Uintah Animal Control and Shelter Special Service District is helping spread the word to remember pets need some extra consideration during the winter months. While many people believe that dogs and cats are resistant to the cold weather, that’s not quite true. The top tips shared by Uintah Animal Control come from thepetplace.com. Number one, keep pets inside in below-freezing weather. Some thick-coated dog breeds are bred for colder climates but even then it is not recommended to leave them outside for long periods of time. Other tips include having your animal wear a sweater or coat, provide warm, dry shelter against the wind for times pets have to be outside, and include your pet when planning for potential winter emergencies. Have enough food, water, and medicine for your pets on hand to get through at least 5 days.
