A Roosevelt traffic stop initiated due to a headlight being out and the registration being revoked resulted in arrest for drugs on March 27th. According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, while talking to the driver, the officer noticed what appeared to be drug paraphernalia on the passenger floor. The officer’s state-certified K9 was deployed and the canine alerted at the rear passenger door of the vehicle. The officer had the rear passenger step from the vehicle. She identified herself as Marley Sauter who earlier had shared that her grandmother was the owner of the vehicle. When asked to empty her pockets, she closed her hand around tin foil and when asked about it she turned away and tried to run. The officers were able to grab her. As they tried to place her in cuffs, Sauter was able to place the foil in her mouth and chew it up and then spit it out on the ground. She was detained and placed in an officer’s vehicle. The foil was tested and found to contain methamphetamine. During a search of the vehicle, a bag with drug paraphernalia was found, including a glass pipe with residue in it.The bag contained Sauter’s ID and was sitting next to other items, including a marijuana grinder and a bud of marijuana. 22-year-old Sauter was placed under arrest for Possession of Methamphetamine, Obstruction of Justice for attempting to destroy evidence, and other drug related charges. The possession charge was changed from a misdemeanor to a felony because it was found that Sauter was on pretrial release on another pending felony allegedly committed earlier that month. Due to the new charges, the court revoked the prior release and ordered that Sauter be held without bail.
