21 years of service for the federal government. 21 one years of giving all to help in whatever way is necessary. Ashley National Forest thanks Jessi the Mule, aka Jello, for her 21 years as part of the Ashley National Forest Pack String. “Over the years she has served the Forest Service well,” shares Ken Reed, the Ashley National Forest Packer, whom Jessi worked with since 2001. “She is as solid a pack mule as you could ever ask for. In her 21 years of service here on the Ashley National Forest she has packed approximately 18,000 pounds, she’s been shod over 70 times and that translates to wearing out over 300 mule shoes in the High Uintas and several trips to the San Juans. She has always been my ‘go to’ mule for packing clinics, transporting crosscut saws, explosives and sensitive equipment.” Through her career, Jessi has supported the wilderness program, fisheries program, hydrology, engineers, wildlife program and much more. Jessi, who is in her 30 plus years, was adopted by a family with horses, dogs and children in Montana, where she will receive the love and care she has rightfully earned by her years of faithful service.
