A surprise presented to outgoing Duchesne County Commissioner Irene Hansen at her retirement celebration last week left her totally speechless as those gathered showed their support. The old county building in Duchesne City that has been remodeled to house the Gateway Senior Center, Duchesne County Library, and USU Extension has a new sign in place out front and it bears a new name: the Irene Hansen Building. Hansen’s fellow Commissioners, Greg Miles and Tracy Killian, pursued the idea to highlight the many years of service Hansen has given Duchesne County through years of working for the Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Department, Travel and Tourism, and finally in 6 years as a County Commissioner. “Words cannot describe my sincere appreciation,” shares Ms. Hansen. “As a public servant, I have always loved all of the County residents, businesses, organizations and leadership. It is an absolute privilege to have served them. I don’t think I can ever thank everyone enough to consider me worthy of this honor. I will strive to continue to make a difference and make our communities stronger and more resilient.” The presentation of the building’s new name was done on Tuesday as part of the building’s ribbon cutting ceremony. Plans to move into the building begin next month.
