Something valued and utilized in other city governments around the country, Roosevelt City is working to support an Interfaith Committee. According to discussion during last month’s city council meeting, the committee was requested by the previous Mayor and City Council. Mayor Bird presented and shared that it was determined that the Interfaith Committee be clearly non-denominational if the City is part of supporting it and the goal of the Committee would be to organize service projects and promote community togetherness. The council approved the proposal to have an official Interfaith Committee formed and it was agreed the City Attorney would write up a resolution to officially create it. The council discussed separation of church and state and Mayor Bird emphasized that the Committee creates a method for various religions to work together and that there will be no focus on any one religion, just a focus on bettering the community.
