No doubt there is more traffic on 500 North in Vernal headed east to the landfill with the increase in activity at Buckskin Hills. Improvements to the road are planned but the process takes time. Vernal City obtained a grant four years ago for improvements on 500 North from Vernal Avenue to 500 East. UDOT has that project currently out to bid with the tentative plan to start construction next spring. That section will add a sidewalk. Uintah County’s Special Service District 1 was awarded earlier this year a UDOT grant for improvements on 500 North from 500 East to the landfill. The process to get to the construction stage is a few years off but planning is in the works and eventually improvements will stretch from Vernal Avenue to the landfill.
