Wyoming’s Sweetwater County Jail had an influx of a dozen new inmates on Thursday delivered there by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Cowboy State Daily spoke with Sweetwater County Sheriff’s spokesman Jason Mower who said that many is well-above the jail’s daily average but it is still not unheard of. The 12 people booked were all males between the ages of 21 and 41. “In a lot of ways it’s business as usual, because we can go days or weeks at a time where you’ll check the jail roster and see one ICE detainee,” shared Mower with Cowboy State Daily. “Then a lot of times out of nowhere, not through our doing, suddenly we’ll have 15 of them.” Sweetwater County Jail is the only jail in Wyoming that has a federal contract to hold ICE detainees on a long-term basis. While the influx of bookings is sporadic, 12 in a single day is the highest amount recently. In the month of February the highest in one day was 7.
