Saturday was opening night for the 10 nights of fear at the Hotel Vernal Haunt and Ghost Tours. ‘Hotel Vernal’ opened in
1947 on east Main Street in Vernal
and was ‘the place to be’ for decades. Now known as the Weston Lamplighter Inn, the rooms of the Hotel Vernal have been empty since 1991 with ghost stories swirling ever since. It seems appropriate then that the hotel doors have reopened and the public is encouraged to come experience over 35 rooms and hallways that have been transformed into a bonafide haunted house with all proceeds going to charity. 14-year-old Lorenzo Crane experienced the haunt over the weekend and absolutely loved his terrifying experience. “This was the scariest situation I’ve been in in my entire life,” shared Lorenzo. “I was screaming and was told I could be heard down the halls. It was so much fun but I nearly died in the process from a heart attack.” The experience is created by around 70 volunteers there each night with about 50 actors in the haunt itself. The event is raising funds for four local charities: Ashley Valley Food Pantry, Forever Forward Services, Vernal Theatre: LIVE Foundation, and Sub-For-Santa.
