High winds continue to hinder firefighting efforts on the Spring Creek Fire in western Colorado. The fire was called in on Saturday afternoon and rapidly grew from 2 to 200 acres. Crews held the fire on Sunday but unfortunately high winds and dry weather caused the fire to grow to 2,577 acres by Monday night. The Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit reported that Tuesday went much better with no measured growth and the fire at 5 percent contained. A complex incident management team is expected to assume management of the Spring Creek Fire on Wednesday. As many as 7 air tankers and 2 helicopters have been working from the sky while numerous ground units are working to stop the fire’s spread. Closures have been issued and the public is asked to avoid the area.
