High Winds Cause Drifting Snow, Closes Highway 40

High winds made for white out conditions and major snow drifts on Wednesday keeping the road departments throughout the region busy. Highway 40 was closed in Colorado and into Utah. Uintah County Emergency Management reported that in some areas the winds were creating new snow drifts as fast as they were being cleared. The conditions stranded some motorists in western Colorado and drove home the need for sufficient car survival kits. Uintah County Emergency Management recommends jumper cables, flares, flashlight with extra batteries, a first aid kit, non-perishable food, water, a basic toolkit, radio, shovel, ice scraper, extra warm clothing, blanket/sleeping bag, hand warmers, and a charged cell phone with a spare charger.
