The Vernal Chamber Luncheon on Tuesday included a presentation that could prove the key to personal growth and coming out on top in 2020. TriCounty Health Officer Jordan Mathis spoke on “The Case for Tragic Optimism: For your health and the health of your business.” In what was most likely the final public setting for Mathis to share a message with the community before his move, he posed the following question: Does success bring about happiness or does happiness foster success? Among a variation of insights, Mathis shared the following quote from the book “The Happiness Advantage” by Shawn Achor: “The most successful people, the ones with the competitive edge, don’t look to happiness as some distant reward for their achievements, nor grind through their days on neutral or negative; they are the ones who capitalize on the positive and reap the rewards at every turn.” The slide presentation full of gems that could help just about everybody end the year in a better place can be accessed by contacting the Vernal Chamber. In the meantime, the timely message was well received and seen by many as a sincere parting address before moving on to his next career opportunity. Mathis announced his resignation as the Health Officer of TriCounty Health Department in November after having served for 6 years. Mathis has accepted an offer to be the Health Officer for the Bear River Health Department, serving Cache, Rich, and Box Elder Counties. This change will relocate the Mathis family to be closer to extended family. Evans Family Media joins the community in thanking Jordan Mathis for his years of service. We wish the Mathis family good luck and of course, happiness!
