Tax reform bill HB441 was officially pulled from the Utah legislative session
on Thursday afternoon
after a week of push back and outcry from the business community and citizens critical of the bill. The announcement does not mean that Governor Herbert’s plan to broaden the tax base is over but it does give more time for all involved to offer input and hopefully work together to form the best version of tax reform possible. This may be just the beginning but Uintah Basin leaders have expressed gratitude for the input from people throughout the Basin that made a difference in seeing HB441 tabled. Among these leaders is Senator Ron Winterton who shared with Evans Family Media that he has been very concerned about this bill and was able to share his feelings with Governor Herbert during a personal meeting on Tuesday. “I expressed my concerns for this tax bill and told him how devastating it would be to the Basin’s economy,” shares Winterton. “I am very happy to learn the bill has been withdrawn. I am so appreciative of the input that I receive from the people of the Basin.” It is possible that Governor Herbert will call a special legislative session as early as this spring or summer to move forward with tax reform.
