A group of locals, all passionate about the arts, are exploring the possibility of bringing a performing arts center to the Vernal community and they are gathering input from the public. The dream as provided in their mission statement is to “build and provide a state of the art, culturally rich, dynamic, and sustainable performing and visual arts center and entertainment venue [to] provide a unique and professional experience for artists, directors, and audiences year-round in the Uintah Basin.” Robin McClellan is serving as a member of the Vernal Arts Center project Executive Board of Directors. What she first wants to make clear is that this is in an exploratory phase with a feasibility study being performed to gauge the need and sustainability of a venue like this in the Uintah Basin. The group has partnered with a professional organization called ‘Theatre Projects’ to perform the feasibility study. The public was invited to fill out a survey about the idea during a few community events last month with plans to pursue wider distribution to the public for feedback this month and moving forward. The tentative schedule is to hold community workshops and focus groups this spring with hopes to have the Final Feasibility Report complete in May.
