Governor Declares New State of Emergency, Mask Mandate

Governor Gary Herbert declared a new ‘State of Emergency’ on Sunday evening stating that the rapid spread of COVID-19 throughout Utah requires action. Among the elements put in place are a statewide mask mandate that will “remain in place for the foreseeable future and does not expire when the State of Emergency expires.” Other restrictions are effective through November 23rd. Social gatherings are limited to gathering with people who live in your home. There will be no organized or school-sponsored extracurricular activities including sports. There will be no private, recreation, or club sports and athletic events. After November 23rd, weekly testing of participants in high school sports will be implemented. K-12 schools will remain open for in-person learning. Businesses and event hosts must require employees to wear a face mask. Following Sunday’s announcement, Uintah School District shared that all winter sport activities and practices have been suspended until at least November 23rd including tryouts for basketball and wrestling. All extracurricular activities are on hold.
