Governor Cox visited students at Union High School, Uintah High School, and Manila High School as part of the Connecting Utah Tour on Monday. When asked about the experience, Governor Cox shared that he is concerned about the mental health of students and wanted to counter the message they hear that the future is terrible and there is nothing to look forward to. “I think it’s the exact opposite,” says Cox, who shared with students that the state’s economy has never been better, there’s never been a better time to get a job in Utah, and that opportunities for education abound. He says he especially felt this was an important message to share with students in rural Utah where he says students are patriotic and part of communities that take care of each other when emergencies arise. That’s what our country has forgotten, says Cox, and why these students are actually the answer to our country’s problems. The Governor said that talking to the students helped him understand that they feel the future weighing on them and that he realized just how important it is to focus on making sure the future stays bright for each one of them.
