Give’m Health: TriCounty Health COVID-19 Update

by | Apr 22, 2020 | News | 0 comments

TriCounty Health Officer Jordan Mathis gave his weekly COVID-19 update on Tuesday for the Give’m Health segment on Eagle Country 105.5 FM. Addressing concerns and criticisms from the community, Mathis emphasized that absolutely no one wants to be in the current situation and the efforts of local officials is aimed at mitigating the pandemic while still allowing businesses to be open and operate safely. Using the analogy of going into battle and being outgunned, Mathis said that rather than retreating and completely sheltering in place he believes it’s smarter to use the weapons we have, like the use of face coverings in public, to battle the virus while allowing businesses to be open. While there has been public criticism, TriCounty Health District has been one of the least restrictive health departments in the state and Mathis says they will continue to look for solutions in the middle ground such as the face coverings and continue to provide testing as they have partnered with www.TestUtah.com. As far as those wanting the option of an antibody test, Mathis says he hopes they will eventually be available but for right now the science isn’t there yet. Thankfully the TriCounty Health District has remained at only 10 confirmed positive cases and, as of Tuesday night, that is out of 904 tests performed. This is considered a very good sign for our area and Mathis is giving credit where it is due. “I do want to say that I think our numbers indicate that our community is working together and things are working,” shares Mathis.
