TriCounty Health Department is encouraging the community to consider a very important aspect to their health: Sleep. The recommended daily amounts of sleep each day is 12 to 16 hours for infants, 11 to 14 hours for toddlers, 10 to 13 hours for preschool age kids, 9 to 12 hours for school age kids, 8 to 10 hours for teens, and 7 or more hours for adults. TriCounty Health Educator Daniel Jackson warns that not getting proper sleep is more serious than most realize as it increases the risk for obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and poor mental health. With that in mind it is appropriate to acknowledge that May is National Sleep Better Month and National Mental Health Month. Even one night of poor sleep can affect you.
