TriCounty Health is making it easy for locals to test their homes for a silent killer common in Utah. It is estimated that one in three homes in Utah have elevated levels of radon and sadly this radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers and the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. In Utah, 25% percent of all lung cancer is caused by exposure to radon. In fact, radon is responsible for 15,000 to 22,000 deaths in the U.S. each year. Radon is a naturally occurring gas caused by the decomposition of uranium-bearing granite in our soil. It can not be seen but it can be easily detected by using a home test. TriCounty Health Department has home radon test kits available for free, first come first serve.
