February is Heart Healthy Month and TriCounty Health Department wants all to be thinking about their own heart health. The heart plays a vital part in an individuals quality of life, as it is one of the most constant mechanics in the human body. The average adult heart beats 72 times a minute; 100,000 times a day; 3.6 million times a year; and 2.5 billion times during a lifetime. A healthy heart pumps 2,000 gallons of blood through 60,000 miles of blood vessels every day. It would take a kitchen faucet turned all the way open at least 45 years to equal the amount of blood pumped by the heart in the average lifetime. Some simple things to take care of one’s heart is to get off the couch and walk. To learn more about Heart Healthy Month, visit www.tricountyhealth.com.
