Domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, affects 1 in 3 Utah women during their lifetime. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels and is considered a major public health problem for young people as well as adults. The statistics are sobering. Twenty-nine percent of women and nearly 10 percent of men in the United States have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner and reported the incident.
