The girlfriend of the man that ran over and killed the Santaquin police officer last month before fleeing and getting caught in Vernal has shared what happened before the killing. Fox13 News reported that 41-year-old Michael Aaron Jayne’s girlfriend told the detective that she had met Jayne in Arizona for a truck hauling job. Somewhere between Las Vegas and Beaver the pair ingested methamphetamine and Jayne became violent and threatened his girlfriend, forcing her to continue traveling with him. At some point Jayne called 9-1-1 and told them that a “Hells Angel gang member was on the trailer” of his truck. The woman was terrified as Jayne drove erratically and when Jayne stopped the semi due to being pulled over by police, she got out of the cab and ran to the police screaming that Jayne was going to hurt her. This was when Jayne drove the semi away before making a U-turn and running over Sgt. Bill Hooser. What followed was a sequence of stealing multiple vehicles before Jayne was eventually located in Vernal. He fled from officers at high speed before crashing and being brought into custody. Jayne did suffer injuries and was hospitalized before being returned to the custody of Utah County. He is facing a long list of charges in addition to the Aggravated Murder charge.
