Operation Dry Water 2020 took place over the holiday weekend and the Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation was one of four locations in the state to be monitored. The operation was an effort to decrease the number of DUI’s both on and off the waters in Utah. Multiple agencies joined forces and made contact with over 3,000 people during the operation which yielded 156 citations issued including 5 DUI’s, 12 Open Container, 6 Minors in Possession, 25 Possession of Marijuana, and 26 Possession of Drug Paraphernalia citations, among others. 34 Field Sobriety Tests were performed resulting in 6 arrests and 5 impounds. “Boating on Utah’s waters is a great way to have fun and relax with friends and family; however mixing alcohol and boating can be a recipe for disaster,”  shares Utah State Parks Boating Program Coordinator Ty Hunter. “Impaired boating is no different than driving a car. It decreases your situational awareness, reflexes, and decision-making skills. It puts those in your boat and those around you at risk.” The stops and checkpoints took place on the water and on the roadways.
