Former Daggett County Deputy Sentenced to Jail for Inmate Abuse

The former Daggett County Sheriff’s Deputy at the center of the Daggett County Jail scandal has been sentenced to 4 months in jail. 27-year-old Joshua Cox was sentenced on Monday in 3rd District Court for his active role in inmate abuse. Cox pleaded guilty in September to felony Transporting a Weapon into a Secure Facility and 2 counts of felony Aggravated Assault. During Monday’s sentencing, original prison terms of up to 5 years in Utah State Prison for his 3 convictions were suspended and instead Cox will serve a term of 120 days in the Uintah County Jail. Cox also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor Theft in September but his sentence of 365 days in jail was suspended. For the four convictions, Cox was fined a total of $17,500 dollars with $16,750 dollars of that suspended, leaving Cox with total principal due of $750 dollars. Cox is ordered to report to Uintah County Jail by
November 8th at 5:00pm
. His order of probation is for 36 months to be supervised by Adult Probation and Parole.
