It took a team of agencies to help a group of people to safety after flash flooding in Duchesne County on Sunday. According to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office, a group of 50 people found themselves trapped by fast moving water and debris on Sunday afternoon in an area south of the Dollar Ridge Fire burn scar. National Weather Service in Salt Lake City sent out an alert at 4pm on Sunday advising people along the Strawberry River near Strawberry Pinnacles and Camelot Resort about flooding and debris after an inch of rain fell in the area in an hour. Firefighters were quickly accounted for and the efforts began to help those stranded that included 30 adults, 13 kids and many pets at Camelot and about a dozen more people west of the resort in the Timber Canyon area. “The road is closed indefinitely west of Camelot,” shares Sheriff Boren, adding that the road is heavily damaged and will take time to repair. “Given the damage done by the Dollar Ridge Fire and the slope of the terrain in the burn scar,”continues Sheriff Boren, “any amount of rain has the possibility to trigger flash flooding and debris flows. People need to know this and take the proper precautions.”
