Wyoming Game and Fish is once again issuing a plea to anglers on Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Please help harvest small lake trout of less than 28 inches. The reason is the high numbers of small lake trout remain a concern for fisheries managers. In fact, it is believed the future of the fishery depends on the continued harvest of these predators. A recent study shows there are around 143,000 lake trout under 28 inches in Flaming Gorge which is triple the numbers recorded in the 1980s. These trout have affected the number of young kokanee salmon as kokanee comprise approximately a quarter of their annual diet. It is also worth noting that while payouts for reward tags ended August 31st, anglers are still encouraged to call the number on the tag to help wildlife officials collect data.
